Payment Processing - The Basics

The image below is a high-level overview of payment processing. CyberSource is ACTIVE Network Faith' payment gateway provider while ProfitStars is the ACH (eCheck) provider.

The church member pays for an event or submits their donation through the Church’s website, which utilizes Fellowship One.

Credit/Debit Card Path

• Fellowship One securely transfers the transaction to CyberSource
• CyberSource routes the transaction through an Internet Merchant Account (IMA)
• The IMA routes the transaction to Visa or Master Card which in turn route it to the issuing bank (cardholder bank) for authorization.

  Note: American Express acts as their own issuer and acquiring bank

• The issuing bank returns an authorization approval or decline
• CyberSource returns the authorization approval/decline message to F1 who in turn notifies the member
• CyberSource sends a settlement request to the processor, who then routes it to Visa or MasterCard
• The issuing bank approves transfer of money to the acquiring bank (Church’s bank)

eCheck (ACH) Path

• Fellowship One securely transfers the transaction to Profit Stars, a subsidiary of Jack Henry & Associates
• A debit request is made by Profit Stars through the Originating Depository Financial Institution (ODFI)
• Monies are withdrawn from Member’s bank and deposited into the ODFI
• Profit Stars then issues a Settlement request to the ODFI
• The monies are released to the Church’s bank
